Conferences for the MBE Program

Conferences are a great way to get involved, meet teachers from across the state, network, and get curriculum ideas!!

This past week, the Wisconsin Marketing Education Association held it's Fall Update at the Chula Vista in the Wisconsin Dells. The conference lasted from Wednesday, Oct. 31-Nov. 2nd. It was truly an amazing experience. This was the first year that I have been able to attend the conference and I got so much out of it, it was unbelievable.

Starting with a very early morning, we left on Thursday to go to the Dells. There were about six UW-Stout MBE students who attended the conference. There were many great speakers at the conference, including people from Travel Wisconsin, Culver's, SYSO, and Chula Vista. Each of these companies talked about their marketing strategies, an in-depth look at their company, and how they have made it this far with what they do. Sidenote: Did you know that SYSCO owns the coffee that is in all Starbucks? Pretty cool isn't it?

I met a lot of marketing teachers across the state, which is important when you go out to student teach to know teachers, have them know who you are. It will increase your chance of being placed where you would like to student teach.

At the conference as well, there are opportunities to talk about curriculum and what other teachers do. I have a whole binder of just curriculum from TWO days!! That may not be exciting to you yet, but it will be in the years to come.

I had such an amazing time at this conference, and hope that each one of you will have the same experience some day :)

Getting Involved with MBE

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give everyone a little bit of information about myself and the MBE program at UW-Stout.

Currently, I am a junior in the Marketing and Business Education program and I love it here. UW-Stout has many activities and opportunities for each person on campus. I currently am involved in the major's organization, Marketing and Business Education Association, MBEA. This organization is super important to be involved with because of the amazing opportunities it offers. You can learn more about being an advisor to FBLA and DECA, but it goes beyond that. A member has the chance to get to know the other people in the major at a different level. If you get involved when you are freshman, you will get to know seniors, juniors, and sophomores in the major. This is important because it helps you network. When I say network I really mean that if you need help with picking classes or don't know who you should take what class with who, those are the people who have been in your shoes before and are willing to help you through making those decisions.

In this organization, I have had the opportunity to experience many different activities and events which include learning about the four points of the DECA diamond: Civic consciousness, Leadership Development, Vocational Understanding and Social Intelligence. Each semester committees brainstorm and put on meetings that correspond with these four ideas.

There are many social opportunities with MBEA as well. There are events such as the Get up and go banquet where there are speakers, dinner, and social time with other people in the MBE program. Every semester we have a end of the year/semester event where members are invited to come, eat, and discuss the past year.

Going beyond the weekly meetings, there are opportunities with conferences. During the school year a member will have the chance to go to conferences such as the Wisconsin Marketing Education Association, the Wisconsin Business Education Association, DECA districts, Minnesota Districts, FBLA regionals, and FBLA state. These opportunities really let you see what may be ahead of you when you become an advisor. Also, these are great networking experiences you really get out and meet people from the disciplines of marketing and business.
